Given it’s likely we’ll all be spending more time at home soon, it’s worth getting into a little home exercise routine. Besides the obvious physical and mental benefits, evidence shows that regular exercise enhances the immune system, both across the lifespan and acutely following a bout of moderate intensity exercise. ‘Immunosenescence’ is a term used to describe age-related decline of normal immune system functioning. Regular exercise is capable of delaying the onset of this decline. It appears the jury is still out regarding the acute effects on the immune system of a high intensity bout of exercise, however recent research suggests it is also immuno-enhancing.
